Auto-Generate Subtitles in Hindi & Other Languages | Adobe Premiere Pro Tutorial
Today, I’m going to show you how you can generate captions in your desired language—right inside Adobe Premiere Pro. Whether it’s English, Hindi, Spanish, or any other language, you’ll learn how to make your content global, accessible, and ready for a wider audience. First, drop your video onto the timeline.
Now, if you’ve enabled the “Include Captions on Import” option, Adobe will automatically start transcribing your video—as soon as it's imported. But here’s the catch—it always transcribes in English by default, because the English language package comes pre-installed with Premiere Pro. Don’t worry—we’ll talk about how to install other language packages in just a moment. For now, let’s try creating captions in a different language—like Hindi. I’ve already imported a video that’s in Hindi.
Now, go to the ‘Text’ panel. If you don’t see it, simply go to ‘Window’ in the top menu, and enable it by clicking on ‘Text’. As you can see here, Premiere has already transcribed the video—but again, it did it in English, even though the audio is in Hindi.
Now let’s see if Premiere Pro actually got it right. If I play the video—you’ll notice something right away. The transcription is completely off. The words on screen don’t match what’s actually being spoken in the video. And that’s because Premiere is trying to transcribe Hindi audio using the English language model, which obviously won’t work. That’s exactly why we need to install the proper language package—so Premiere Pro can understand and transcribe the audio accurately. Let’s fix that next.
There are two ways of doing so.
1) Directly from the Premier Pro.
I’m going to generate a new transcript using the correct language. Click on the three dots in the Text panel, and choose ‘Generate Static Transcript’. You’ll see several options pop up. Under the Language section, scroll down and select your preferred language. In this case, I’m selecting Hindi.
Now, like I mentioned earlier—
If you want to generate a transcript in any language other than English, you need to install that specific language package in Premiere Pro. When you try to generate it directly, Premiere will first attempt to download the language pack and then start transcribing. But here’s the issue—it can take forever. ⏳
So there is a second, shortcut and efficient way of doing this.
2) From Creative Cloud Desktop App.
First I’m going to cancel this open Creative Cloud Desktop application and go to the ‘Apps’ section. Find Premiere Pro, click on the three dots next to it, and select ‘Get Add-ons’. This will open a list of all available Speech-to-Text language packages. As you can see, only English is installed by default.
Scroll through the list and look for your desired language. In our case, I’ll select Hindi and Spanish.
Once you find it, just click on ‘Add’. The download will begin, and you’ll see the progress right there. It’s much quicker this way. Once the installation is complete, you’ll see it marked as ‘Added’. That’s it! Close the Creative Cloud app, head back to Premiere Pro, and now follow the same steps as before to generate Hindi captions.
And this time—it’ll work instantly.
You see that? The transcript is now completely in Hindi—exactly as it should be.
That means Premiere Pro has finally understood the audio correctly, thanks to the right language package. Now let’s quickly create a caption from this transcript and play the video,
—just to make sure the audio and captions are perfectly in sync.
And that’s it!
You can follow the same process to generate captions in any other supported language—just make sure to install the right language package first.
I hope this video helped you make your content more accessible and reach a wider audience.
