Here at Connecticut’s premier Blues Club, Black-eyed Sally’s, Carl Weathersby shows off his blistering style and showmanship by walking outside the club while still playing and even breaking a string and continues playing at the same time as he changes that string… just amazing focus and control!
Carl Weathersby a powerful Chicago blues guitarist whose sound bridged traditional postwar blues and modern electric intensity. Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Weathersby grew up immersed in Southern blues before moving north to Chicago, where he became part of the city’s vibrant blues scene. His career took a major turn in the late 1970s when he joined Albert King’s touring band, an experience that deeply shaped his guitar style and stage presence.
Weathersby’s playing carried the unmistakable influence of King—string-bending aggression, stinging vibrato, and a strong sense of space—but he developed a voice that was entirely his own. His tone was thick and expressive, capable of both raw ferocity and deep emotional nuance. Unlike many traditionalists, Weathersby embraced contemporary blues-rock elements, helping keep Chicago blues relevant to newer audiences.
As a solo artist, he recorded several acclaimed albums, including Don’t Lay Your Blues on Me (1997), Restless Feeling (1998), and Hold On (2004). These recordings showcased his soulful vocals, confident songwriting, and commanding guitar work. Weathersby earned multiple Blues Music Award nominations, reflecting the respect he held among peers and fans alike.
