Did female samurai really exist?
Yes! Women warriors were very much a part of Japanese history. Known as onna-bugeisha or onna-musha, they came from samurai families and were trained in martial arts. Their roles included defending their homes and clan lands, commanding garrisons, and supporting military campaigns when needed. They may not have fought in the same way as male samurai, but their presence on the battlefield was real and significant.
