Underground took the Tony Hawk series in a new direction with its big changes to the gameplay, and the addition of a story mode that told an unfolding narrative. Its successors expanded on its new features with some of them being genius ideas, and some of them are not so great. The games, for the most part, still also retained the charm and vibes seen in their predecessors, so these tony hawk games felt like a good fit for the series.
