Parents and coaches of youth athletes may struggle to understand how much is “too much” for their young athletes. Tim Pelot, Senior Strength and Conditioning Coach at the USOPC, guides parents and coaches through the concept of load management, how this is influenced by the physiological base an athlete is able to create during youth and how this can be affected by maturational processes. Pelot emphasizes the need for a strong parent/coach relationship and open communication to understand the athletes’ demand on and off the volleyball court.
