*The immigration office branch you need to visit should be automatically listed on your hikorea account (if your address is up to date). Some cities have a main branch and a smaller branch you can visit, some only have a main branch office. If you need to apply for a new card, go to the main branch, if you just need to renew and stamp the date, the smaller branch might be quicker.

⭐️Call immigration at 📞1345 to verify the documents you need (They will send you a text message with the list of documents).

📃These are the documents I prepared as a US citizen, with no kids, and living in the same residence as my spouse. (Additional documents may be required based on your citizenship or current situation).

3. MARRIAGE LICENSE 혼인관계증명서
*Issued within 3 months
Print online at https://www.gov.kr/portal/main or print from kiosks at your local town office. (Some subway stations and banks have kiosks where you can print them as well).

4. RESIDENT CERTIFICATE 주민등록등본

*It should have your name and your spouses name on it (if you are living at the same residence). If your name is not showing up on the certificate, your spouse needs to visit the local town office and add you, make sure they have your arc card.

Also make sure you have proof of your residency just in case they ask for it. You will get a notice in the mail that your visa is expiring soon, you can use this as proof of your address. You can also use a copy of your housing contract.

5. PASSPORT 여권 (Bring you passport and make copies of it just in case they ask for it).

6. ARC CARD 외국인등록증 If you need a new card, bring a 3.5 cm by 4.5 cm photo and 35,000 Korean won (As of 2025 the fee has increased from 30,000 to 35,000 KRW). I gave the cash to the immigration officer but some locations might have you deposit the money at the atm into their bank account.

For my id photo, I took a picture on my iphone and used the website below. Some immigration offices have a photo booth where you can take a photo.

7. Revenue Stamp 수입인지 *BRING CASH (30,000 KRW)
Print this online or get this document at immigration. There will be a window with a sign. Pay the 30,000 Won and get the revenue stamp before you meet the immigration officer. It will save you time. I went to a smaller branch and I actually had to go to a bank and pay this fee. They made me fill out a form and pay for the revenue stamp. I never had this happen at main branches of immigration but if you go to a smaller branch you may need to do that.

***Arrive early!! Your call number may be called early and if you are not there, the immigration officer will move on to the next person.

After the officer checked my documents she gave me a document called (체류허가 신청확인서). This is your confirmation of application. Keep this document until your New ARC is ready. It also has the date printed of when you can pick up your new arc card. If you don't want to come back and pick up your card you can pay for the postage to have it mailed to your address. Bring extra cash in case!
I went to a smaller branch so the postage option was not available. If I wanted to have my new arc card mailed to me, I would have had to go back to the main branch and apply for the postage, so keep that in mind if you are visiting a smaller branch. I still have to go back to the main branch to pick up my new arc card when its ready.
