The Indian Rupee has hit a historic low of 90.32 against the US Dollar on December 3, 2025, amid surging trade deficits, massive gold imports during Diwali, FII outflows exceeding ₹2 lakh crore, delays in the US-India trade deal, reduced NRI deposits, and a strong Dollar fueled by high US interest rates. Despite strong GDP numbers and cooling inflation, these factors have accelerated the Rupee's depreciation- from 80 to 90 in just over 3 years. This has raised concerns for imports, inflation, fuel prices, foreign education costs, and stock market volatility.
RBI employs a managed floating regime, intervening via its $700 billion forex reserves to curb excessive volatility without targeting a specific level, as Governor Sanjay Malhotra noted a natural 3-3.5% annual decline is expected. Strong fundamentals offer hope: a finalized US-India trade deal could rebound the Rupee to 86-88 levels.
