However, stepping inside isn’t for everyone—most people can’t endure it for more than 45 minutes to an hour. The silence is so profound that it can cause disorientation, a loss of balance, and even hallucinations.

Built with six layers of concrete and steel, the chamber is completely isolated from outside noise. Inside, wedge-shaped fiberglass panels line the walls to eliminate echoes. Engineers use this eerie space to perfect technologies like Microsoft Surface devices and Xbox consoles.
