Trackmaster James 2012 AA battery version Unboxing review and first run

Hi Guys and Gals here we have today the 2012 version of James from Trackmaster, this is the newest shape where the battery is now located inside the boiler instead of the tender and it has the animated face from the TV show and movies. How does it look and feel compared to previous versions? read on :D

So as soon as it is unboxed its evident that this is a much different looking James than anything we have had previously (except 3 speed James), the boiler is longer and its diameter has been increased to house the AA battery inside, this also results in a much larger face than the previous versions. The tender is very light as is thew whole locomotive weighing in as the lightest of the 4 by a very noticeable amount. will this affect performance? well not really as it runs very well and pulled 4 coaches with no problems at all in any section. The speed is quite good although not the fastest out of the box it is quite respectable (Connor is the fastest out of the box I have seen).

So should you buy this James? Yes, if you already own an older version of James and want a great running version with the current face this is a good buy! Also if you don't yet own a James this a very good version that you will enjoy allot.

Edit: forgot to add a score, I give this loco an 8/10 a lightweight loco with a cheap feel but a good runner. The shape will take some getting used to after around 20 years of the old shape.
