Frost Seeding Canada Rye, Side Oats Grama, June Grass, Indian Grass, Etc

Today I finally frost seeded the rest of my 2020 harvest of prairie grass seed. All of these seeds were harvested from the prairies growing on the property and include Canada Rye, Side Oats Grama, Indian Grass, Big Bluestem, and June Grass. I also frost seeded a bucket of purple coneflower and other native wildflower seeds including Indian Blanket, Black Eyed Susan, etc. I planted Little Bluestem a few days earlier, and would have liked to have planted a lot more but high winds stripped the plants in the prairie garden of their seed so I missed my opportunity this year other than the single pound (purchased) that I frost seeded a few days ago.

I hope to get more Little Bluestem seed in the spring. I just contacted LaCrosse Seed today and hope to get my Blue Grama, Buffalo, and Little Bluestem from them next year. At the very minimum I will be seeding at least three pounds of Blue Grama into the upper back prairie and other areas near the house next spring. In just a few short weeks I will be planting flats of prairie grasses in Room 13 so make sure to subscribe and not miss that!
