"A dozen astronauts had died in orbital accidents, their capsules left to revolve through the night sky like the stars of a new constellation..." A couple arrives in the ruined wasteland of Cape Kennedy to retrieve the remains of an old friend, and come in contact with the scavengers who now live there.
Originally published in the May 1968 issue of Playboy magazine, which re-published it in an Italian-language anthology in 1970. It appeared in one more magazine, the February 1977 issue of Urania, then in a series of anthologies: Mind in Chains in 1970, The Dead Astronaut in 1971, a German one in 1974, a French one in 1975, and another German in 1990. It also appeared in three collections of the author's stories: Low-Flying Aircraft and Other Stories in 1976, Memories of the Space Age in 1988, and The Complete Short Stories in 2001.
