VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
In late spring I had the opportunity to visit the Balearic Island of Mallorca, Spain, and hike through a scenic section of the Serra de Tramuntana Mountains along the northern backbone of the Spanish island. I took the bus from where I was staying in Playa del Mura, through Alcudia, to the terminus at Platja de Formentor. The 3 mile road walk was relatively flat and easy to the trailhead located above Cala Figuera beach. There is a set of stairs built into the hillside below el Fumat; however, this route is very dangerous and in my opinion should be avoided. After traveling through the tunnel and joining the trail approximately .25 miles beyond the tunnel, the scenery unfolds with stunning views of Cala Figuera and el Fumat in the distance. After reaching the top of el Fumat, I had a scramble back down to the trail which lead through pine forests to Cala Murta beach - a scenic beach filed with boats, sunbathers, and a donkey. The trail then looped back through the lush forest, through private property, back to the main road. Overall, a fantastic experience and recommend this hike if visiting Balearic island of Mallorca, Spain.
