Exactly 45 years ago, on November 28, 1979, Air New Zealand Flight 901 disappeared into the icy expanses of Antarctica. The tragedy became known as the “Erebus Disaster.” When the charred remains of the Douglas DC-10 were discovered on the steep slopes of Mount Erebus on Ross Island, no one at the time could have imagined how profoundly this disaster would leave its mark on history. We want to take you back to that fateful day when all 257 people on board lost their lives, back to a time when this was the 4th deadliest aviation disaster in history.
What happened on that day? Why did the aircraft crash into a 12,000-foot-high active volcano? And who bears the responsibility for this catastrophe? We aim to answer all these questions in this video by reconstructing the tragic events and examining the perspectives of those involved.
On the 45th anniversary of the disaster, we remember the 257 souls lost at Mount Erebus. May this tragedy never be forgotten, and may we continue to learn from their sacrifice.
„He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.“
Revelation 21:4 -
