"Osteophagia" means "bone eating" ! During the winter months, when calcium and phosphorus are not available from their normal plant fibre diets, giraffes get them from chewing the bones which they found lying on the ground. I had the chance to film this behaviour during my april 2005 visit in Kruger NP (South Africa) -
"Osteophagia" significa letteralmente "mangiare le ossa" ! Durante I mesi invernali, durante i quali le giraffe non possono ottenere il calcio e il fosforo dalla loro normale dieta di fibre vegetali , esse ottengono questi elementi masticando le ossa che trovano sul terreno. Ho avuto l' opportunità di filmare questo comportamento durante una delle mie visite al Kruger National Park (Sud Africa), aprile 2005.
