Event Description:

The recent years have seen a dramatic influx of Muslim international students pursuing their higher education in the West. With countless new doors opening for these candidates, Muslim students are also exposed to numerous challenges.

If you’re about to join an international graduate program and are stressed about this new phase of life, our upcoming talk will be greatly helpful for you to navigate through it. As you cross borders into the West, you are likely to encounter challenges related to Halal food, differences in Fiqh, Islamophobia and confusions about your Muslim identity.

In this talk, Zaid Saeed Khan will discuss all the challenges that come with this chapter of life and how you can overcome them. This lecture will touch upon issues relating to adjusting in the new culture, and intricacies of staying true to your faith while succeeding in your studies.

Speaker Profile:

Zaid Saeed Khan is currently pursuing his PhD at New York University. Previously, he completed his Masters at MIT and his BSc at LUMS, where he served as LRS president. He was also a faculty member at LUMS from 2017-19, during which time he also conducted weekly spiritual talks at the LUMS Masjid. During his time in Boston and New York, he has served as Imam and Khateeb at various Masjids and universities, including MIT, Harvard, Northeastern, and NYU, and has been actively involved in Muslim student life. He has spent time in the company of various Muslim scholars and speakers, and has exposure to traditional Islamic knowledge. He is currently an active member of Naseeha Institute, which is working to connect the educated youth with Islam.
