Au sein du symposium Useful Fictions, Stefan Laxness était intéressé par les outils scientifiques et technologiques utilisés pour mesurer les changements climatiques, ainsi que les façons dont les données qui sortent de ces instruments sont quantifiées.

Il présente son travail au sein du Lab 5 du symposium : "Making, Engagement and Reflexivity". Son équipe a choisi de se concentrer sur le redéfinition du mot "perception".

USEFUL FICTIONS : un symposium international sous forme d’ateliers arts & sciences, organisé du 9 au 13 septembre 2019 à l'École polytechnique.

Une semaine intensive de collaboration entre artistes, scientifiques et designers pour construire de nouveaux récits autour de la pensée écologique en réévaluant la notion de mesure, considérée ici comme une “fiction utile” mais non définitive ni absolue.

18 étudiants artistes, scientifiques, designers, architectes, activistes venus du monde entier.

24 encadrants chercheurs, professeurs et artistes français et internationaux, pour les guider dans leur réflexion.

Un partenariat entre les University of California (UC Davis, University of California, Irvine et UCLA) et l'École polytechnique, organisé par la Chaire arts & sciences et avec le soutien de la Chaire développement durable/Edf de l'École polytechnique, avec 5 ateliers proposés dont deux conçus par l'École nationale des Arts Décoratifs (EnsAD - PSL).

La Chaire arts et sciences est un programme de recherche et de collaborations entre artistes et scientifiques porté conjointement par l'École polytechnique et l'École nationale des Arts Décoratifs - PSL, avec le soutien de la Fondation Daniel et Nina Carasso. Les projets de la Chaire portent sur les questions d'interdépendance avec notre environnement, qu'il s'agisse des enjeux climatiques et végétaux ou de sujets liés aux questions technologiques.

An intensive week of collaboration between artists, scientists and designers to build new stories on ecological thinking by re-evaluating the notion of measurement, considered here as a "useful fiction" although not definitive nor absolute.

18 student artists, scientists, designers, architects, activists from all over the world.
24 supervisors, researchers, professors and French and international artists, to guide them in their reflection.

A partnership between University of California (UC Davis, University of California, Irvine and UCLA) and École Polytechnique, organised by the Chaire Arts & Sciences, with the support of École Polytechnique's Chair of Sustainable Development - Edf, with 5 labs including 2 labs conceived and hosted by the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (EnsAD - PSL).

The Chaire arts & sciences is a research and collaboration program between artists and scientists carried out jointly by École polytechnique and École nationale des Arts Décoratifs - PSL, with the support of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation. The Chair's projects address issues of interdependence with our environment, whether it is about climate change, our relation to plants or topics related to technological issues.
