The last few seasons have all got off to fairly slow starts and 2025 was no exception however snowmaking at Whakapapa has vastly improved with their new snow guns capable of working in 2 degree temps and loaded up the Gondola run down thru the Waterfall into the Rockgarden for all the early season punters to enjoy. These 'Low tide' conditions also mean lots of rock features and side hits to play around on!
Come Mid September the snow arrived in the form of a metre plus snow storm that lasted a good week or so. Once the storm cycle had finished we were left with top to bottom riding on both sides of the Maunga and the team at Whakapapa were able to open the West chair for the first time in several seasons.
It was fantastic being able to get my whole family riding the upper mountain together this season after so many seasons of them riding the lower mountain only.. hopefully we get an even better snowfall next year and can get the whole crew back up top again in '26 :)
