🪷 What makes someone truly Buddhist?
It’s not the label. Not the robe. Not the ritual.
It’s how you take refuge — and what you rely on when life shakes.
In this Dhamma talk, we explore the Buddha’s own test for genuine refuge:
🔹 What “Taking Refuge” truly means — beyond reciting words
🔹 The five marks of a true lay follower (faith, virtue, karma, self-reliance, generosity)
🔹 Why believing in external powers or charms misses the point
🔹 How Ajaan Lee and the Canon describe three levels of refuge — outer, inner, and unshakable
🔹 The moment you realize: no one will save you but your own actions
🔹 The path from fabricated peace (concentration) → to the deathless (unfabricated freedom)
💡 The Buddha didn’t promise protection — he offered a method.
You become Buddhist the moment you live by cause and effect, and trust your own capacity to awaken.
☸️ “The door is open,” the Buddha said. “Show your faith.”
Not by belief — by doing the work.
