Preferred Description: The JR West THUNDERBIRD limited express is an important connection between Japan’s Kansai region and the Hokuriku region, running frequently between Osaka and Tsuruga, via Kyoto. It is also one of the fastest and most scenic conventional train services in Japan, running at up to 130km/h along the Kosei line. This line, which can be roughly translated as the ‘Lakeshore West line’, lives up to its name as it parallels the spectacular Lake Biwa.
Our ride takes us from the mountains of Hokuriku, past snow fields and Lake Biwa, and into the ancient capital of Kyoto.
