Miami Beach is a series of barrier islands just east (of course) of the City of Miami in Miami-Dade County, Florida (US). The most famous part of Miami Beach is South Beach. I moved there in early 1985 and lived there until the end of 2018. When I arrived to Miami Beach, I rented an ocean front apartment on Ocean Drive and I thought this was the best place in the world. Although the city was completely underdeveloped there was a certain charm amidst the violence, crime and lack of stores and everything. But the 1990's changed all of that as it brought a boom to the city and it developed (as did Soho, New York in the 70's) as an artistic, bohemian and affordable place, with a little less crime and violence, but where people could live life as if one lived in a permanent vacation. There were galleries and many live music clubs, both jazz and rock as well as Latin music. It was a great place to live. But commerce, greed and corruption controlled the hearts of the city administrators, both elected and appointed and things "modernised" and changed for the ultimate worst. The city became too expensive for the galleries, the cool restaurants and the bohemian-lifestyle places that attracted so many people, so they all left... By 2012 I was counting the days to leave and finally the time arrived...
Photographs are what I had shot back in the early 1990's and music (the song "Saragossa" which I composed and played with Stoo a great pianist) was recorded live at one of the clubs, this one was Rose's on Washington Avenue and 6th Street. (All Rights Reserved)
