In June 2022, Andrew enrolled in the Goodwill Supported Employment Program and began his job as a Sales Associate/Material Handler at the Goodwill Edgar & James retail store in Bixby Knolls. Immediately he excelled in his job especially in the Donated Goods Center where he meets with the community who are bringing donated items to the store. It is not uncommon for donors to specifically ask for Andrew when visiting the store. In November of 2022, Andrew was diagnosed with a brain tumor and required immediate surgery.
Unsure of what the future would bring him, Andrew was especially concerned he might not be able to work again or if Goodwill could hold a position long enough for him. While he recuperated, Andrew requested if his mother could drive him to the retail store so that he could look at the store wishing he could return soon. On the day of his return, all of his co-workers were so excited to see Andrew again and welcome him back! Andrew has built such a wonderful camaraderie with the Goodwill team members and it is very noticeable. Andrew is also cross trained in other retail functions and is quick to assist his co-workers in their duties as well. As Andrew has stated, “I like to work!”
