Pink-footed geese - perhaps the noisiest and most eye-catching of Angus residents; return in their thousands to Montrose Basin each year from a summer spent in Iceland and Greenland
The comings-and-goings of the birds in the town ranks among Scotland’s most amazing wildlife spectacles. 2021 numbers peaked in Montrose with an enormous 72,350 counted on October 16.
As winter draws near, these displays become rarer as the geese head south in search of food and longer days.
