This home, built on a modest corner allotment in Central Ballarat within a heritage overlay, honors the traditional pitched-roof miners' cottage style. The sloped site reflects ancient lava flows and 19th-century mining activity. To prioritize privacy and solar gain, the house was positioned near the street corner, maximizing northern open space. Modern gable-ends face the sun, and splayed roof overhangs block summer sun and enhance street privacy.
"The Rex" will be open to the public for Sustainable House day in Victoria Australia. May 4th 2025.
