F-Zero GP Legend Speed Run: All Grand Prix Cups beaten with Sonic Phantom

this ship is interesting because it's actually pretty good and a good intermediate choice but seems like it still suffers the same way it does in every game it is in which is being good but still being overshadowed by better ships.
the stats are for the most part pretty good. the only real weakness it has is that it has pretty bad speed retention but that is only a problem in tracks where you can't boost constantly. in tracks where you can, this weakness doesn't matter much. the ship is one of the few with a higher than normal jump so it has an easier time with many shortcuts. i guess these 2 traits line up with the pilot having no meat in the bones which means less momentum and more airtime.

here's some information about this game that explains several things in the run:

angled driving: the reason it looks like i'm always driving at an angle is because strafing speed from L and R is added to your normal speed and this makes it overall faster. that means i hold one of these buttons at all times except in few instances were going straight is tricky.

blast turning: the reason i'm mashing the accelerator button a lot is because this is a tech called blast turning and that makes the ships turn much sharper and retain their grip. normally it isn't a problem like in the original F-Zero and MV but this game's sound design is garbage and the sound used here is very annoying.

difficulty setting and tracks: this game introduced a mechanic where the tracks themselves varied depending on the difficulty chosen. that means the tracks you play in novice and standard in the first 3 cups aren't the same as the ones in expert. for this reason i do the first 3 cups 2 times because technically they contain different tracks. the last cup has the same tracks in all difficulties.
also, this game's highest difficulty is Expert. there is no Master mode here and the Platinum Cup doesn't give you any continues in Expert which makes it more dangerous to run so i take the safest strats here.

this run was recorded using the GBA Nintendo Classics App on Nintendo Switch 2. i cropped the border manually since the app doesn't let you do that normally and cropping the border improves the video's encoding.
