Can one of America's most polluted lakes be brought back to life? Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Charles Driscoll proved it's possible. As one of the nation's leading pollution research experts, Driscoll has dedicated his career to understanding how air pollutants devastate our soil, water and vegetation, and more importantly, how to reverse the damage.
His groundbreaking predictive environmental models have tackled some of our most pressing environmental crises, from acid rain to mercury contamination. Most remarkably, he led the successful restoration of Onondaga Lake in Central New York, transforming it from one of the country's most polluted waterways into a environmental success story.
On this "'Cuse Conversation," Driscoll discusses the magnitude of his research, how he uses models to both understand the disturbances and lead restoration efforts and reflects on some of his successful remediations.
