ALMOST STUCK!? Awful 1999 MontgomeryKONE hydraulic elevator | Hudson's Bay, Park Royal

Alright, so if you are not aware, June 1st 2025 was the final day for all remaining Hudson's Bay stores across Canada. I had to go to the North Shore for an event, and I decided to stop at the Hudson's Bay at Park Royal, on its final day being open. After riding the escalators, I decided to go film the elevator. This could have turned out to be a mistake, but luckily it did not. Here is what happened:

The plan was to go from 2 to M, then back up, then end off one M. The first ride down went as normal, but when the door closed, the elevator was supposed to start moving. Except once it closed, the button I had pressed to go back up unlit itself. I noticed this right away, and in my mind I panicked. I did not have the time to be stuck in an elevator, let alone on the last day of operation. I hit the door open button, but nothing happened. I pressed the button for the second floor AGAIN, but still nothing happened. The only thing left I could do was to press the button for the floor the elevator was still on. SO that is what I did. And the elevator reopened! I stepped out immediately, as I did not want to spend another nanosecond on that terrifying elevator.

The elevator itself is not in good condition. The door bumper is bent inwards at the bottom, and the door takes a very long time to close. On top of that, I had ridden the elevator up a minute before this video to get photos of it, and it ran fine (minus the door issues). I had gotten in the elevator with a staff member at that moment, but I was alone for the video. There is also a good chance that this elevator replaced something older, as the escalators here were Montgomerys from 1969 (meaning that the original elevator was likely a Montgomery too).

If this store were to ever reopen, I hope that the new owners modernize this elevator, as it desperately needs one.
