Sermon by Rev. Emily Robnett at UUMC Tulsa.
“Finding God’s Peace When the World Feels Dark” — an Advent sermon about hope, peace, and God’s presence in anxious seasons.
Many people enter Advent carrying stress, anxiety, and a deep sense of darkness—even though the season is often called “the most wonderful time of the year.” This Advent message explores how God meets us in the darkness and invites us to rest in His presence when life feels overwhelming.
Drawing from Isaiah’s vision of turning swords into plowshares, we look at God’s promise to bring real peace into a world marked by conflict and fear. The sermon also shares the powerful story of the Sawi people and the “Peace Child,” a tradition that helped reveal the meaning of Jesus as God’s ultimate gift of reconciliation and hope.
If you are walking through a stressful or anxious season, this message will guide you toward hope, peace, and the light of Christ—reminding us that Advent begins in darkness, but it never ends there.
