In this video I examine briefly two theologically oriented issues:
A) The Problem of Divine Determinism
Calvinism is a form of determinism – in this case, divine determinism. This is so because God is determining everything that happens through his decree. It is an aspect of God’s sovereignty. However, there are several problems with any form of determinism, including divine determinism. The most serious is that it undermines any sense of moral responsibility. How can one be held accountable for doing that which God decreed be done?
B) The Wills of God?
I look at four expressions of God’s will – decretive, prescriptive, permissive, and disposition – and show how the wills of God work out in both the Calvinist and non-Calvinist understandings. Once more, the Calvinist model is seen to be highly problematic.
