Sri Ramana Maharshi (1879–1950) was a revered Advaita Vedanta sage who embodied non-duality through silent self-inquiry (ātma-vicāra). Born in Tamil Nadu, India, he experienced a profound awakening at the age of 16, dissolving his individual identity into the Absolute (Brahman). He spent his life in Arunachala, guiding seekers beyond illusion with the direct path of "Who am I?". His legacy illuminates the timeless truth that Consciousness is the only reality, making him a beacon of modern spirituality.

This video explores Ramana's dialogue on whether projected Consciousness (mahat) equates to Cosmic Consciousness. He explains Mahat as the initial "projected light" of Absolute Consciousness (cit), which expands like a seed to manifest as ego (ahaṅkāra), mind (manas), the self, and the physical world (aham, idam). Ramana clarifies that Cosmic Consciousness is mahat—the all-encompassing screen on which the universe manifests, similar to images in a cinema. Just as dreams project vast worlds (e.g., London) within the tiny brain, the entire cosmos arises from Consciousness, not from external space.

Ramana dismantles the ego's illusion of separation: Cosmic Consciousness (Īśvara) and individual consciousness (jīva) emerge from the Absolute (para). Realization is not Cosmic Consciousness, but rather remaining as Para—the immutable "screen" behind all projections. His analogies—cinema, seeds, and dreams—reveal that liberation lies in seeing through the veil of the ego to recognize oneself as the limitless and silent Substratum of existence.

This fundamental teaching emphasizes that even Cosmic Consciousness is a manifestation. True freedom is dissolving into Para, where no "projector" or "projected" remains.
