HYUNDAI SANTA FE ‘22: CAR RENTALS SUCK

The Hyundai Santa Fe is an economical 3-row SUV / Crossover that is sold around the world. The current generation is the fourth (4th) generation introduced in 2018, and refreshed in 2022. They sell it in long wheelbase 3rd row and shorter wheelbase 2 row versions. Both are quite economical to purchase and run, but you will see harsh depreciation as they've sold too well and they are not aspirational. 
The driving experience is appliance-like and as good as you would need for it to be basic transportation.  It rides smoothly, has adequate power, comfortable seats, sufficient legroom for all, and although narrow, it doesn't feel cramped. The packaging is exceptional, as this thing is somewhat shorter than a Murano and yet has a TON more room inside. That's all the good that I can say. The demerits are a far longer list: This is a loud highway cruiser and the engine is unpleasant; the interior finishes are tuppereware-like; the infotainment system on this - the welfare spec - is what you'd expect.
We rented this thing for a couple of days and got used to ignoring the smell of sweaty vacationers and desperation.
