Rain lilies are petite, so while they won't be the flashiest bloomers in the garden, they do naturalize well so look for more pop up with each passing year. And they weave in and around your established plants beautifully, filling in a bare spot here and a hole there. Rain Lilies can be planted any time of the year and are resistant to pests and diseases. Because of its small size, plant it near the front of the border or the edge of a path or garden where it can easily be enjoyed. Pair rain lily with low-growing sedum cultivars and ground-hugging thyme. It will pop up through these groundcover plants in early spring for vertical interest.
Also known as the Zephyr lily, fairy lily, and rain flower, Zephyranthes plants are reliably hardy in zones 7-11. Gardeners in colder growing zones can still enjoy these plants in containers, where they perform reliably as border fillers.
Rain lily grows best in full sun and well-drained soil. If you are planting in the ground, look for a site that drains well. Rian lilies are happy in average soil and do not thrive in soggy soil. Planting in containers? Any standard potting mix will work well. It does not blossom well in shade. Plant bulbs 2 to 3 inches deep and 3 to 4 inches apart in spring. Water bulbs well after planting and cover the soil with a 1-inch layer of fine mulch. Native to dry regions, rain lily grows best in average to dry soil. Only water plants during extreme dry periods.
How: Plant about 2.5cm deep and 7-8 cm apart. Rain lilies look best in large groups, and the closer you plant them, the sooner you will achieve the mass-planted look. Water regularly after planting, particularly if the weather is hot.Rain lilies are happiest with little moisture during spring and summer, with a bit more water late in the season to trigger flowering.
