I'm John, a 23 year old filmmaker from Virginia that just graduated from Penn State film school. I want this channel to be a place where I can challenge myself, reach the limit in what I can create and go past it. I want this to be my true portfolio, my life's work. I hope you enjoyed watching as much as I enjoyed making. I'm trying to evoke something. Something in the images, something in the sounds. I'm constantly getting closer. I hope to see your work out there, and that my films can inspire you to make your own. Your subscription keeps me inspired.
Shot on a Sony A7SIII with a 70-180 mm Tamron f2.8. Tribes SE Tripod.
Thank you for watching!

Notes on the state of Hollywood and online content creation (most of the text below is to help the YouTube algorithm, but its an interesting read. Some is AI generated).
How do we get the billions of people on YouTube back into theaters? So many of them sit empty all around the world, so what can be done about it? People want to see videos on their iphone on the big, silver screen. Videos being posted online have the polish and impact of traditional Hollywood films with a personal touch, without the barriers of big business and industry.
The rapid evolution of the YouTube New Wave is explored, highlighting the growing popularity of short-form video content and its impact on broader Hollywood. This video examines the reasons behind this shift and analyzes its potential implications for creators and viewers.
The Impact on Traditional YouTube Content
The shift in creator strategies as they adapt to the changing platform environment.
The evolving role of longer-form videos as creators seek to maintain their audience.
The potential for a hybrid approach, blending short-form and long-form content.
YouTube filmmaking is evolving—and not always for the better. As the algorithm leans harder into short-form, clickable content, many filmmakers are caught between chasing views and telling stories that matter. In this video, we take a look at the current state of short films on YouTube: the rise of aesthetic-driven content, the disappearance of meaningful narrative, and the pressure to package everything into viral-ready thumbnails and titles.
But it’s not all doom and scroll. We also explore the new wave of creators blending cinematic storytelling with platform-savvy strategy—and how short films can still thrive in this environment if we play it smart.
Whether you’re a filmmaker, a creative, or just someone who misses the soul in online storytelling, this one’s for you. 22 year old, 22 years old. 20 years old. 18 years old. teenager. video essay. cameras. life of riza
Notes on sound design in film:
Compared to the other 5 senses, why do humans seem to bias towards sound (and regarding art forms, music over paintings and visual arts) over the other senses? and why is music in particular have such a profound effect on mood?
We don’t seem to have a need to walk around with smelling candles and smell things on our way to class like we do with headphones, even our eyes don’t seem to be linked to such powerful emotion as sound. sound feels fundamentally about experience more than any other sense, where smell and sight and taste seem more about survival. smelling an essentially oil doesn’t amp us up for a workout. if i were depressed, i don’t have a desire to stare at an image to cheer myself up.
We don’t go to venues with thousands of people to smell things, or to touch something super soft or strange. sounds seems to be linked directly into our emotion like our smell is linked to memory. we almost never have our lives changed by seeing or smelling something unless it’s extreme like a corpse, and almost never by sensation like a drug.

Sound is an all natural, invisible force which can move an entire group of people to dance and instinctually move? even for films, a visual medium, the soundtrack and sound design is as crucial to quality of the film to what we see. we have no issue listening to a podcast on our way to work, but watching a youtube video with people talking with subtitles and no audio is boring beyond belief.
