Days Gone - RESHADE PC Gameplay - enhanced contrast

In this video I take a look at the game after applying some filters with Reshade. Reshade is a free injector available to download on reshade.me. (click on show "more").

I started from the "Dawn of the Dead" config available on

and then edited it to my liking. The in-game brightness is 5/10. I don't like when too much gets changed in the game, I tried to give it a better look but still leaving the game as original as much as possible. MY main problem was: on very sunny days, the vanilla game still looked grey and cloudy. During the night, everything would lit up much too much and would look blue. With my Reshade the game still has bright enough nights (much better, but still too bright) but this is a game design choice of the game: a more realistic night would have been unplayable. The flashlights of the enemies are more realistic and blind you more when pointed at the player.

On a sunny day, it is harder to see inside dark rooms from outside, unless you get closer or enter them. The zones in the shades in forests are darker. The glare from the sun is stronger and the godrays through fences and trees are nicer. Saturation overall is more balanced, there is less "blue filter" which was exaggerated in this game.

Sun coming from windows in dark rooms stands out more (on walls / floors etc), and darker parts of the room are less easy to see. In a completely dark room you would need to use the flashlight.

Clouds in the sky next to the sun may seem overexposed but it is kind of realistic because you would never look at the sun directly, you would not see anything. Here is a lack of proper HDR (sdr) from the game honestly, which doesn't adapt while looking at bright light sources.

Reflections on weapons, wet surfaces, blood stains, shiny metals are accentuated and more pleasant. On rainy days it makes a particular difference. Saturation from wood and grass is better, without going beyond natural levels.
