The Yagyu Shinkage ryu is a kenjutsu school founded by Yagyu Muneyoshi in the 16th century, who received the transmission of the Shinkage-ryū from Kamizumi Nobutsuna. It is known for its distinctive technique of "muto-tori," which involves disarming and subduing the opponent without using a sword. The school split into two branches, one in Edo and the other in Owari, with the Yagyu family of Edo becoming prominent as kenjutsu instructors for the Tokugawa shogunate.
