38. The Two Old Men

Adapted from “Two Old Men” by Leo Tolstoy
Characters:
Old Man 1: A wise, thoughtful man.
Old Man 2: A curious, somewhat impulsive man.
Village Children: A group of cheerful kids who help with the story and add fun moments.
Setting: A quaint village with a cozy, simple backdrop of houses and trees. There’s a central area where the old men often meet and talk.
Scene 1: The Village Square
The stage is set with a few houses and trees in the background. Old Man 1 and Old Man 2 are sitting on a bench in the village square, chatting.
Old Man 1: (sipping tea) Ah, the village is so peaceful today. It’s a perfect day to relax and think.
Old Man 2: (fidgeting) I’m restless! I want to do something exciting. Have you heard about the new land being cleared out of town?
Old Man 1: (nodding) Yes, I’ve heard. It’s quite a lot of work. They say it’s going to be a great new place for farming.
Old Man 2: (excitedly) I think we should go explore it! We could find something amazing, like hidden treasures or beautiful plants!
Old Man 1: (smiling) It’s always good to explore, but remember, we need to be careful and prepared. Let’s go together and see what we can find.
Village Children enter, playing and laughing. They run around the old men, adding energy to the scene.
Child 1: (to Old Man 1) Can we come with you?
Old Man 2: (kneeling to Child 1) Of course! The more, the merrier. You can help us discover new things.
Child 2: (excitedly) I bet we’ll find something amazing!

무대는 배경에 몇 채의 집과 나무를 배경으로 하고 있습니다. 노인1과 노인2는 마을 광장 벤치에 앉아 이야기를 나누고 있다.
노인 1: (차를 마시며) 아, 오늘 마을이 참 평화롭네요. 긴장을 풀고 생각하기에 완벽한 날입니다.
노인 2: (안절부절하며) 안절부절 못해요! 나는 뭔가 흥미로운 일을 하고 싶다. 새로운 땅이 도시에서 제거되고 있다는 소식을 들어보셨나요?
노인 1: (고개를 끄덕이며) 네, 들었습니다. 꽤 많은 일이군요. 그들은 그곳이 농업을 위한 새로운 장소가 될 것이라고 말합니다.
노인 2: (신기하게) 우리 같이 탐험해 봐야 할 것 같아요! 숨겨진 보물이나 아름다운 식물 등 놀라운 것을 찾을 수도 있어요!
노인 1: (웃으며) 탐색하는 것은 언제나 좋지만, 조심하고 준비해야 한다는 것을 기억하세요. 함께 가서 무엇을 찾을 수 있는지 살펴봅시다.
마을 아이들이 들어와서 놀고 웃는다. 이들은 노인들 주위를 뛰어다니며 현장에 활력을 더한다.
아이 1: (노인 1에게) 우리도 같이 갈 수 있나요?
노인 2: (어린이 1에게 무릎을 꿇으며) 물론이죠! 많을수록 더 즐겁습니다. 당신은 우리가 새로운 것을 발견하도록 도울 수 있습니다.
아이 2: (신이 나서) 뭔가 놀라운 걸 발견할 것 같아요!

Scene 2: The Edge of the Village
The setting changes to a part of the village where the land is being cleared. There are trees and bushes being removed. Old Man 1, Old Man 2, and the Village Children arrive.
Old Man 1: (looking around) It’s quite different from what it used to be. There’s so much open space.
Old Man 2: (picking up a stick) Look at this! We could use this stick to mark our path so we don’t get lost.
Child 3: (finding a small plant) Look what I found! Is this a rare plant?
Old Man 1: (examining the plant) Yes, it’s quite special. We should take care not to disturb it too much.
Child 4: (finding a shiny rock) And I found this! It’s so shiny. Maybe it’s a treasure!
Old Man 2: (laughing) It might be. But remember, sometimes the real treasure is in the adventure and the time we spend together.
Old Man 1: (nodding) That’s right. Exploring and discovering new things is wonderful, but sharing these moments with friends is the real treasure.
Child 1: (cheerfully) This has been so much fun! Let’s come back and explore more another day.
Old Man 2: (smiling) I agree. Let’s make this our special adventure spot. We’ll create many more memories here.
Scene 3: The Village Square (Later)
The stage returns to the village square. The old men and children are back, looking content and happy.
Old Man 1: (sitting on the bench) What a day! I’m glad we went out to explore.
Old Man 2: (sitting beside Old Man 1) Me too. It was an adventure, and we learned a lot.
Child 2: (to the audience) We had so much fun today. It’s great to explore, but even better to share it with friends!
Child 3: (to the audience) And remember, every adventure is special when you’re with people you care about.
Old Man 1: (smiling) Exactly. And sometimes, the simple joys are the best.
Old Man 2: (nodding) Let’s always remember that the best treasures are the memories we make together.
The Village Children gather around Old Man 1 and Old Man 2, all smiling and laughing together.
All Together: (cheerfully) Here’s to more adventures and happy times with friends!
The stage lights fade out as the characters wave to the audience, and the children continue to play and laugh.
