Immortalized in Dante’s Inferno, Alyscamps, one of the most famous historical burial grounds outside of Rome, is a short walk from the centre of Arles in the southwestern corner of Provence.
What an inspiring place to play the ancient aulos, that might very well have been played right here for burials in those ancient times.
The bass version of the aulos is a fourth lower than the original. Ancient iconography shows us that large auloi had existed. The tuning of the later imperial Roman Louvre aulos inspired me to develop this bass version.
