The prohibition era in the United States lasted between 1920 and 1933. During this time, the manufacture, storage, transportation, sale, possession, and consumption of alcoholic beverages were banned. This was the bootlegger hay-day. To the surprise of no one, Las Vegans were not fans of the new prohibition law, so speakeasy bars were not just popular among the locals, but among tourists too.
To celebrate this history, the Mob Museum right in the heart of DTLV has an authentic prohibition era speakeasy of their own—the Underground, where they distill their own moonshine. We stopped by the distillery to learn about prohibition and bootlegger history and to see how the moonshine is made.
