We’re in Kyoto for the first run of our Japan series, heading out early to beat the crowds on one of the city’s most iconic routes – a run from near Kyoto Station to the Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine.
This run takes us through busy city streets, across the Kamogawa River, and up into the famous Torii gate mountain paths. We walk the shrine grounds (out of respect), soak up the atmosphere, then enjoy the downhill journey before running home.
It’s a perfect example of why early morning runs are the best way to explore a new city – especially in Japan.
