Abstract:
In this talk, I will discuss extensions of an economical third-order cell-centered finite-volume scheme, originally developed for tetrahedral grids, to mixed-element grids. Two approaches are considered: a split-quadrilateral-face approach and a flux correction approach. These two approaches are applicable also to a baseline `second-order’ cell-centered finite-volume scheme that loses second-order accuracy on irregular nontetrahedral grids. The two approaches are compared for three-dimensional flows on irregular hexahedral grids, and their relative merits are discussed.

Bio (by Grok): Hiroaki Nishikawa is a renowned researcher and engineer specializing in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 2001, and has since made significant contributions to the field, particularly in the development of algorithms for diffusion and viscous discretizations on unstructured grids. Nishikawa has worked at prestigious institutions including NASA Langley Research Center, where he contributed to enhancing CFD codes for accuracy and efficiency. His work includes the development of high-order schemes for shock capturing and the design of unstructured-grid methods. He has also been recognized with awards like the AIAA Region 1 Engineer of the Year for 2020, underscoring his impact on both theoretical and applied aspects of CFD. Currently, he continues to influence the field through his research and educational contributions.
