My name is Ernest M. Keeling, political poet. This extract is from my book-length poem 'The Ballad of Bloody Sunday, Derry, 30 January 1972'. (ISBN 979-12-201-1040-2). Dedicated to Ireland and its people, it chronicles Irish history under oppressive colonial rule from the 12th century up to ‘Bloody Sunday’, drawing on allegory and mythology. Divided into 16 Chapters, it features Cú Chulainn on the cover, a mythological warrior hero. This poem is an extract from ‘Chapter XII The Starvation Terror’, which refers to the starvation of the Irish people by ‘Perfidious Albion’ during the 19th century, which senior British Treasury official Charles Trevelyan called 'divine providence'. Limited signed paperback copies available from me through Crowdfunder UK: £12 / €14 plus p + p. Digital PDF copies also available, under copyright, £6 / €7.
