Marienburg: a sugar cane plantation in Suriname, South America, and the sight of unspeakable suffering. In this video, I visit the ruins of the plantation factory, now abandoned and taken back by the jungle.
First run with slave labor, then through the exploitation of contract laborers from India and Indonesia.
When workers rebelled in the early 20th century, the authorities massacred them and dumped them into a hidden mass grave. Ever since then, the restless souls of these workers curse the plantation. The following directors died mysteriously. To this day, locals say the place is haunted.
