In this video, I perform “Lacrimosa” from Mozart’s Requiem.
Lacrimosa is one of the most emotional and powerful movements of the Requiem. Mozart began composing this piece during the final weeks of his life, while he was seriously ill. It is believed that he managed to write only the first 8 bars of Lacrimosa (till 0:50) himself before his death in 1791. The rest of the
movement — and the entire Requiem — was later completed by his student Franz Xaver Süssmayr, based on Mozart’s sketches and ideas. Because of this, Lacrimosa is often associated with Mozart’s final moments and is sometimes described as music written on his deathbed, which adds even more depth and emotion to the piece. 🎼 I hope you enjoy this performance.
