Today I’m posting a rebuttal and deep-dive on what’s really wrong with modern window A/C units—especially that so-called “water-slinger” design on the rear condenser. Now, I know this unit looks rough. It’s parked in a room we’re remodeling, and the dust you see is exactly the kind of mess this flawed design creates. For the record, the A/C is only a couple of years old, in perfect working order, and still blowing ice-cold air.
This unit is mounted on a safety bracket (not visible) and the short drain is never supposed to come into play. Instead.. both drains blocked up and this unit reverted back to designed "Slinger mode" .. a swampy slirpy sound I never cared for.. plus as you can now see.. it's soaking the house!
Right after I film this, I’ll give it a full cleaning—so ignore the grime and focus on the design problems I’m about to show you.
All right, let’s switch to the live demo and break down what’s happening inside this thing.
