In 1940 Ohio, a small-town school bus rolled into the yard right on time. The engine was running. The doors were open. Every seat was empty.
The children never boarded that morning. They were still waiting at the edge of the road. But the driver—the schoolteacher who took the early route herself—was gone. On the front seat lay her chalk-dusted coat, still warm to the touch, as if she had just stepped away for a moment.
The route map on the dash showed no detours. The dirt roads held no fresh bootprints leaving the bus. Parents swore they saw it pass their houses as usual, silhouette at the wheel and all. Somewhere between the last turn and the front gate, an entire person had vanished, leaving the vehicle to finish the drive alone.
Was this a planned escape, a crime carried out in open view, or did something step onto that empty road and take only the driver, not the bus?
Which version of this disappearance makes sense—and which detail about that warm coat on an empty seat shouldn’t exist in a normal world?
