Have you ever been invited to a party… and just didn’t show up?
Now imagine saying no to a royal wedding.
That’s exactly what happened in one of Jesus’s most powerful stories — “The Parable of the Wedding Feast.”
Picture this: A great king throws a wedding banquet for his son.
Not just any party — this is the event of the year.
The finest food, the richest wine, the grandest hall.
Everything is ready.
So the king sends out invitations to all the people who were already on the guest list.
But here’s where it gets strange...
They refuse to come.
The king thinks, “Maybe they just need a reminder.”
So he sends more servants:
“Tell them the feast is ready! The oxen are roasted, the tables are set — come and celebrate!”

But instead of excitement, there’s anger.
Some guests ignore the messengers completely.
Others grab them, insult them, even kill them.
When the king hears this, he’s furious.
He sends his army to deal with those who destroyed his servants —
and their city is left in ruins.
Then the king turns to his remaining servants and says,
“The wedding feast is ready, but those I invited don’t deserve to come.”
“Go out into the streets. Invite everyone you find — good or bad — just fill the hall!”
So the servants run through the city gates,
inviting anyone who will listen.
And one by one, people come —
rich, poor, strangers, outcasts —
all gathered under the same roof,
sharing in the king’s celebration.
Finally, the wedding hall is full.
Laughter fills the air again.
But then, something catches the king’s eye.
One man stands out.
He’s not wearing wedding clothes.
Everyone else came ready — but this guest didn’t even try.
The king asks him, “Friend, how did you get in here without the proper clothes?”
The man says nothing — silent, ashamed.
So the king orders, “Bind him hand and foot, and throw him outside — into the darkness.”
It’s a shocking ending.
But Jesus wasn’t telling a story about fashion —
He was talking about the kingdom of heaven.
You see, the king represents God.
The feast is His invitation —
an open call to share in His joy, His forgiveness, His love.
At first, many people reject it — too busy, too distracted, too proud.
But God keeps inviting.
He opens the door to everyone —
the broken, the overlooked, the undeserving.
Yet, when we do come, we’re called to come ready —
with hearts clothed in humility, love, and faith.
So here’s the question:
When your invitation comes…
will you ignore it —
or show up, ready for the feast?
