Die Hel (Gamkaskloof) Day 2 of 4 Rooiberg to Die Hel. Epic Adventure Ride into Die Hel 🇿🇦

Join us on an epic South African adventure motorcycle ride through some of the most breathtaking, rugged, and remote routes the Karoo has to offer.

Starting at Rooiberg Lodge, we climbed the dramatic Rooiberg Pass and rolled into Calitzdorp before tackling the scenic Besemkop Road through Groenfontein. Our route included the stunning Kruisrivierpoort Pass, the lesser-known but equally thrilling Huis se Hoogte Pass, and a visit to Matjiesrivier.

With perfect riding weather — thanks to rain the night before keeping the dust down and the temperatures cool — and a well-experienced group of adventure riders, we kept a confident pace through South Africa’s gravel backroads.

We stopped for a traditional Karoo lunch at Kobus se Gat, before ascending the famous Swartberg Pass and turning onto the rugged Otto du Plessis Road, making our way toward the isolated valley of Gamkaskloof — better known as Die Hel.

The highlight of the ride was tackling Elands Pass — a nerve-testing, narrow gravel pass with tight hairpin bends, loose rock, steep drop-offs, and incredible views. This route demands skill, courage, and a sense of adventure.

As night fell in Die Hel, we were treated to one of the clearest skies imaginable — a canvas of stars like nowhere else on earth.
