More live-looping shenanigans.

As usual the Digitakt is the brain of the setup, it provides all the drums as well as some effects and acts as a MIDI sequencer for the Octatrack. The ZOIA is used as a MIDI processor and a gate for the bass. The Microcosm adds the granular reverb thing on the main keys and the Aeros Loop Studio is looping the bass line.

The Octatrack is doing quite a lot of work in this one. It plays both the keys and the synth bass in the intro. The notes from the Keystep are processed by the ZOIA and spread onto several Octatrack tracks (lower notes go to a bass track and all the notes are also sent to 4 different tracks to create polyphony). Then the Octatrack records the guitar bit between 0:59 and 1:08 and I later slice that newly-recorded sample to create the bridge at 2:05. The really-really cool thing is that this is happening on 2 different tracks playing the same sample with different parameters. Every time I hit a note on the Keystep, it triggers a slice on one track set to normal speed and a slice on another track where the sample is an octave lower. Both tracks have LFOs controlling the frequency of their filter. All of this results in a pretty dense and layered sound/rhythm, I really like this setup. Some classic Octatrack shenanigans.

Every element was recorded onto a separate track and I mixed the whole thing inside Logic Pro X. I added some reverb/delay and I mastered the result with Izotope Ozone 9. I also did some timing edits.


This one is fairly different from my usual stuff but it was pretty fun to work on something a bit more danceable, aha, anyway, love y’all,
