Jigs have fallen out of favor in the repertoire of modern southern old-time musicians but most of the earliest recorded source fiddlers seemed to know a few. The manuscript of 19th C tunes as played by the Hamblen family, who were originally from Virginia, contains these three, which are quite well known, especially in the Scottish piping tradition. These are nice versions and we wanted to include them to pay respect to that part of the Hamblen repertoire. They are: Haste to the Wedding, Blue Bonnets Over the Border, and The Campbells Are Coming. The first is attributed to the playing of Williamson Hamblen; while the second and third are said to have been in David R Hamblen's repertoire. It's unlikely that the Hamblens would have played any of them in a medley like this, but they work well this way.
