Reintroduction of 3-year old plants (2022 - 2025) of Liparis loeselii at a site, at Parco Adda Nord (near Lake Como, northern Italy), where it had gone extinct due to abandonment and lack of management. Plants are in their autumn/winter resting phase, mostly without live roots or leaves and existing as a tough pseudobulb.
The fen orchid, Liparis loeselii (Orchidaceae), is protected as an 'Annex II' species of the European Union Habitats Directive. It is also protected by Lombardy Regional law (n. 10, 31 March 2008; ‘Flora and small fauna protected in Lombardy’) as a grace C1 rigorously protected species. The Native Flora Centre (CFA), managed by Parco Regionale del Monte Barro (https://www.parcobarro.lombardia.it), is a partner of a Life Project (Life SeedForce; https://lifeseedforce.eu/en/) which aims to improve the conservation status of 29 species occurring in 76 Natura 2000 SCI/SACs. All material collected and used for the present study was obtained with collection permit DPN/2D/2004/13650, issued by the Ministry of the Environment, to the Lombardy Seed Bank (LSB; managed by the CFA/Parco Monte Barro).
