Seattle police officers arrested a 44-year-old man, and convicted felon, for stabbing another man in the Chinatown-International District this evening.
At about 5:30 p.m., patrol officers responded to reports of a stabbing in near 12th Avenue South and South King Street. There, they found a 40-year-old man suffering from stab wounds. The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) arrived and provided medical aid to the victim.
SFD transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.
Police determined that the suspect stabbed the victim multiple times in the abdomen after running up to him from behind. The victim chased after his attacker but could not catch him. The suspect fled on his bicycle before police arrived.
A patrol Sergeant and officers found the suspect near Rainier Avenue South and South Bayview Street. The suspect fled from multiple cops on his bike through the Lowe’s parking lot and into the oncoming northbound traffic lanes of Rainier Avenue South.
Officers quickly arrested the suspect without incident. They recovered the knife from the suspect’s waistband. Police booked him into the King County Jail for felony assault.
The Real Time Crime Center captured video of the seemingly unprovoked attack. This footage will aid in the criminal investigation.
Detectives in the Homicide and Assault Unit will be assigned to this case.
